Toolkit for Long Term Recovery "Haiti: Reconstruction for All "

The toolkit for Long Term Recovery "Haiti: Reconstruction for All" elaborated by the GPDD Working Group on Haiti Reconstruction is now available online.

The GPDD and allies are working together to raise awareness and contribute with useful information and tools in order to ensure that reconstruction efforts after Haiti earthquake involve people with disabilities during all stages and that all rebuilt and newly built infrastructure as well as medical, economic, educational and socio-economic services systems are fully accessible to and usable by people with disabilities .

Satellite session on "AIDS & Disability: Country-Level Perspectives" at the International AIDS 2010 Conference in Vienna

The GPDD, together with Health Canada, and in collaboration with UNAIDS and the World Bank co-organized a satellite session on "AIDS and Disability: Country Level Perspective" at the International AIDS 2010 Conference in Vienna. This opportunity was used to widely disseminate information on the intersection of disability and HIV and AIDS, good practices in developing inclusive HIV and AIDS programs, and generally raise awareness among conference attendees and practitioners on the need to mainstream disability in their work

United Nations Expert Group Meeting on Accessibility Innovative approaches for inclusive and accessible development

The GPDD attended and contributed to the implementation of the "Expert meeting on environmental and ICT accessibility: innovative approaches to inclusive development" at World Bank Headquarters, Washington, DC (USA) from 28-30 June 2010. The meeting was organized by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, in cooperation with the World Bank.

"Reconstruction for All" during the International Donors' Conference towards a New Future for Haiti

The GPDD co-sponsored a panel discussion on "Haiti: Reconstruction for All" during the International Donors' Conference for Haiti on March 31 along with the Permanent Mission of Canada to the United Nations, UN DESA and the Secretariat for the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the World Bank, and Disabled Peoples' International. The panel presented the current needs of people with disabilities in Haiti, the long-term benefits of building an inclusive society, and the development of sustainable service delivery systems for assistive technologies.
